I just noticed my female peacock is holding. Throat sticking out, not eating but pretending to. I think it has been a few days...or could I be wrong. Does anyone know how to tell how long it has been, or when she will spit? Should I take her out and seperate her from the tank? Let meknow...this is the first time I noticed a fish carrying...

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Peacocks will hold between 23-27 days, depending how large the clutch is and how old and how many times the female has been holding.

Re: I think my female peacock is holding
Once spawning is complete, the female will incubate the eggs in her buccal cavity for a period of 21 to 28 days. When the fry are developed enough to swim and forage on their own, she will release them.
I would just leave her be...let her learn how to hold her eggs.
p.s. Congrats on the spawn!I ate my fish that died.

Re: I think my female peacock is holding
It depends on what you plan on doing with the fry really. If you have a well populated tank, the fry won't last long unless there are plenty of hiding places. The peacocks don't really protect their fry like say a Convict pair would so their chances are pretty slim. If you plan to keep them and sell them or something like that then I would pull her but that's my opinion.
