      Re: Rare Leleupi picture

I dont know ... potentially the small BN's.. but who knows... the eggs where laid in an open area which is completely against what I would expect a Leleupi would ever do.
Next time I am going to have to leave some lights on so they can see at night.. (it gets dark in the room at night)
I had not expected them to spawn where they did.... and what I found strange is even with eggs there she didnt have a problems running 1/2 way across the tank to get some food and run back.
She was quick about it but there where other fish in the area that could have attacked the eggs which they didnt.
I dont know.... I am working on getting some small caves built here in the next few weeks where they will have a place to guard the entrances a little better..

Well if they will spawn once they will do it again..   I already have a ton of babies from them.
In a few more weeks the parent fish I have the in spawn tank will be removed (because then they will have all spit) and I will starting to look to sell fish.

I will have 1"+ Leleupi babies and 1"+ Brichardi babies..
I have a few sub adult Brichardi's too I am looking to sell.  (when I moved fish into the new 70g Tanganyika tank I thinned out some of the adults and sub adults so they would not crowd up the tank with a ton of small fish.  Look for a post in another 2 weeks of me selling.  I am not willing to move rocks from the expecting mom's swimming around in the tank right now.

Well was I ever wrong about my earlier statement.
I now see about 30 little bitty and I mean these guys are small, babies in the sand..
They look like two little eyes jumping up and down in the sand... and now I can understand why mom was so vigorously defending the area.

We will see soon how many make it :) :) :) :)

                  Re: Rare Leleupi picture

So I was so happy she was dealing with the little ones and then another surprise came today.
I come home from work and look into this tank, and I look around.

Mr & Mrs Leleupi has dug out a trench along the left side of the structure, and in this trench is her babies.  Now all the way in the back corner she has laid a new batch of eggs, and more interesting I found two pair of Brichardi's one on the left hand side 4 floors up have young running around same age as hers and basically same level in the middle is a second pair of Brichardi's who also have young around the same age.  It looks almost like I am about to have a complete factory of babies coming out of the wood works.   I am amazed to see all this activity in this tank.  I really didnt think I would see them do all this, but like Roy told me "the fish dont read books on where to spawn"  They are supposed to be all cave spawner's and they have basically all decided at the same time to spawn all over the tank.  I know that by September its going to be to early to sell young, but look for a time frame around Christmas for me to break down this tank (its going to be moving which is why) and at that time you will see me start selling juvi's as I am going to catch them all out again... hehe

I will attempt to get some pictures soon, but I am working on getting the house to look like a house and not the bomb it looks like right now :(
