    Re: 200 gallon Tanganyika tank

Well, I bit the bullet. I ordered some Syn. petricola and a colony of Cyps from Dane at www.RifttoReefaquatics.com . Hopefully all will turn out well. I've heard good things about him.

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Dane said they would still be 1-2 months from coloring up. I can't wait either!

              Re: 200 gallon Tanganyika tank

When i got home today, I noticed some little thing swimming next to my leleupi. They're babies!!! Now I have a question.... should I risk taking them out? The leleupi is in a fairly secluded corner of the tank as it is right now. Any suggestions?

Are those the ones you got from me?

I would leave them be, if they spawned once they will do it again. I think its cooler to let nature do it's thing unless they are over populating of course.

If the tank is crowded or nearly so i would remove them, otherwise, let them be and let mom and dad learn how to tend fry.

                      Re: 200 gallon Tanganyika tank

um... i have 11 fish in a 200 gallon tank, so it probably isn't too crowded. it is the two "purple" leleupi's that i got from eklikewhoa. i had to take the other one out because they were beating up on him.

any suggestions on feeding? up until now, i have been grounding up flakes into powder and putting it close the the "home" of the babies.

                        Re: 200 gallon Tanganyika tank

maybe some sinking wafers or something that would get soft and they can pick at it?

how many are there? i think they spawned in my tank before too cause they got really aggressive all of a sudden and kept to a small area behind a rock. i never found anything but i think they might have eaten the babies or they got eaten cause shortly after they began to swim all over again.

there seems to be almost 20 babies... a bit more than i would have expected from them.

                              Re: 200 gallon Tanganyika tank

Well ... its been a while since I have updated this link. Believe it or not... all the fish listed (except the calvus) are in the tank when the photo was taken.

                              Current contents of the Tank:
                              18 Cyp leptsoma "utinta"
                              8 Syn. petricola
                              2 Lamp leleupi
                              2 Alto. comp. "gold head"
                              1 Alto. calvus "black"
                              6 Lamp. occelatus

The cyps are all pretty young still... but one of them is starting to color up with a bit of bright yellow on his pectoral fin.
The petricola like to try to find their way into the overflow. I had to rig up something to get them to stop it. The leleupi spawned twice now. The first time, I left the babies in there to see how good of parents the leleupi would be. That didn't work so well. Within a week, all the babies were gone. The petricola had big bellies! This time, I netted out as many of the babies as I could. Since, I no longer have any tank space, so I found someone with an extra tank to babysit the leleupi fry (Thanks Scott). Everybody in the gets along well.
