Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I have a wet/dry rated for up to 300 gallons and a HOB filter rated to 60 gallons. It is my first experience with a wet dry, and I am satisfied with the results. Should I ever start another large tank, I am gonna try to build my own.

Thanks... I like them too. Worth the trip to Dallas in my opinion. I'm anxiously awaiting for them to become sexually mature.

Just to update... I added a Fluval 405 that I got for $20.
I also rearranged the rockwork to where there was no rock in the first foot of the tank's depth.
The pics are kinda cloudy because i just finished putting the rocks back in...

That is one sweet tank! Makes me want to sell my little 125g to go with something that big! I am sure you can grow some big Tang's in that monster. I got some more black calvus for that livingroom pond.
One question for you, is that sand in the tank? If so, how do you like? I am serious considering making one of my 125g have sand and not gravel. I just don't want a cloudy tank because of the sand. Not saying yours is cloudy because I know you just moved stuff around, but I am curious how it looks after it settles. And after it settles, does it pretty much stay settled.
eklikewhoa, I guess my question is the sand like at the beach, when I step on it, it is firm and like wet concrete or is like if one of my big fish swims by I got a sand storm?
you can have a sand storm depends on how heavy the grain of said i. if its fine it will move very easily, but heavier sand has a courser grit to it usually. im using play sand (hey it was handy i forgot about pool filter sand so sue me) and i kinda like the look of it, has that beach look and doesnt seem to be bothering anything (have the killies in there now ans they seem to like. they will be moved very shortly to make room for my shellies and some pladies to go in that tank.

A close friend just went through multiple substrate changes....
.... first he changed pea gravel to play sand cause it was dirt cheap at home depot but found out really fast that the cichlids stir it up too easily and any water movement kept the sand afloat so it destroyed impellars.
After realizing that play sand is too light he removed it all and we went looking for pool filter sand which is meant for swimming pool filters so it is much heavier than play sand and does not get stirred up too easily. The fish in the tank are frontosas so you already know they are capable of moving sand.
so I guess what I'm trying to say is that play sand is like a sand storm in a tank and pool filter sand is like the beach or wet concrete.
