There may have been too many for her to hold at this stage.  Sometimes she will spit them out and scoop all of them right back up when she senses danger.  Her motherly instincts are working just fine.

          He's having a baby, he's having a baby
Congrats, now the mad scramble for baby items......
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Sounds like you have a Metriaclima estherae (sold as a Red Zebra)
Males typically are bright powder blue, females a rich orange.

If this is the case, the female will hold for about 21-25 days when she will be "forced" to release one or two of them as they will grow to big.  Then one night while the tank is dark she will attempt to find a place where she can release all of them.  Depending on how she is she might give them her mouth as a protective area for a couple of days, but in short time after that she will ignore them and start searching out food for herself.  Once she starts eating most likely she will no longer protect them, and they will have to fend for themselves.
