..trying to do the whole "river-bed" look down the middle. I'm not too happy with it, but not really sure what else I can do. I'll let everyone get settled before move anything else.

Well, all the Discus praise goes straight to Dan. As for plants, I think that might be part of the solution. We 100% do not want to bother with soil, CO2, or ferts.

Maybe some moss on the wood, and some swords in the back? Would that kind of stuff be at the auction?

Give me an example of nicer driftwood. Right now my pieces constitute nice, so I'll need something to replace that interpretation of the meaning of nice.

I like the driftwood, it was exactly what I was looking for. A tall piece and a log looking piece! And the added benefit is, since our plecos like to hide, with these two pieces no matter where they hide we can still see at least part of them.

Get some of the manzania wood from Dan. You could add low light plants so you dont have to do CO2. Like crypts, ferns, or others

Another would be Hygrophila corymbosa in a moderate light tank it will grow a skinny shoot to the top and have a bunch of long leaves.
