Re: General Help on a new tank - Updated Pics

Looks great :) I would move the shells a little more around the area.. you have to remember each occie is going to want to have his / her own shell and live from there.  They will are also going to want places to look at.  I would add a few more shells if you have it and litter each side a little more.  I recommend 1.5-2:1 shell to occie ratio.  I have 12 for what was 7 now 5 occies..  I have another bag with another 40+ shells in it when I get my 4ft tank up and running.

      Filters and water added:

Anubias Nana Petite and Anubias Nana Narrow leaf plants will be in tomorrow and I'll add those to the driftwood.

Talked to Dave's Rare Fish in SA about what he had in stock.  I think I've decided on Lamprologus stappersi 'Pearly Ocellatus' and Lamprologus sp. 'Ornatipinnis Zambia'.    6 of each and I'm going to put a divider in the tank for the first couple of weeks to try to get them established on each end of the tank.

Still need to pick a nice schooling fish to add.

All my plants came from a seller on Aquabid, goes by Bayleesfishees.  He also has a website, bayleesfishees.com, but you can always getter a better deal by buying his packages of plants from Aquabid.   He doesn't usually have the Petite, says it's been very hard to get, but he did get some in on Monday, and I was on a waiting list.  He does have some up for bid right now on Aquabid.

Fish probably are 10 days away.  Should get them overnighted to me next Monday from Dave's Rare Fish in SA

Re: General Help on a new tank - Post Ike Update:

After a few delays on getting the fish, glad I waited until after Ike came through, I placed my order with Dave and my shell dwellers will be here on Friday.

                      6 Lamprologus ocellatus 'Gold'
                      6 Lamprologus sp. 'Ornatipinnis Zambia'

I have added more (and different types) of shells from the last pictures I posted, so I'll try to get an updated picture of the tank tonight before the fish are added.   I will get some pictures of the inhabitants as soon as I can on Friday !

Here's the left and right sides with some additional shells added:

Fish arrived, packed very well: 6 Lamprologus ocellatus 'Gold' and 6 Lamprologus sp. 'Ornatipinnis Zambia':

                        Getting acclimated:

                        Now's where I need a better camera:

The Gold Ocellatus are out checking out their new home:

The Ornatipinnis Zambia have all picked out shells and haven't ventured out much yet, may be a few days before I get any pictures of them once they get a little more comfortable with their new home.

                          Very cool pictures...
I will say this... if you decide to redo your landscape, I would recommend at least for the Gold Occies to put in pool filter sand.. they love to dig in the sand and the way do that is to wiggle their tails really quick basically like a fan....

I am going to be redoing the tank I have mine in tomorrow because right now I have julies in that tank and I need to catch them out.
They are to often going into the shells and getting stuck in them.   None of my occies ever get hurt in the tank but I have now successfully lost 4 julies in that tank and its starting to piss me off...  they are going into another tank tomorrow until the 110 is up and running but that will not happen until November.

imagirlgeek, thanks for the help.  I tried to post the pictures, not the links, but couldn't figure that out.  Can someone lend me some pointers on how to do that ?

The Gold Occies are already digging, one has dug out a large hole under one of the Japanese Land Snail Shells another has dug into the corner by some of the larger stones.
