it keeps the ph up...somewhere in the 7 range. test your water before and after you add it in to find out the exact difference.

          love the xenos!

They will be happy when you get 10 more.  They will like the added interaction.

fine aragonite will break down in the water and buffer it to keep it stable and will in some cases bring the pH up a little.

Finally got a chance to take a closer look at the group...one female has at least 4 eggs in her mouth, and another female looks to be in the early stages of packing...

Went to Dave's Fish on the way home from San Antonio today. Picked up a trio of Lamprologus Ocellatus Gold. I was going to get some F1 Benthochromis Tricoti, but he wanted $45 a piece @ 1.5"  8O

How are the occies interacting with the xenos?

I don't think PFS is THAT bad- I'm sure there's better quality sands out there, but it's not like it's some kind synthetic crap.

Maybe once I have a little more change jingling in my pocket I'll get better sand, but for now I happen to like my (free) PFS :)

                          Your xenos are beautiful.  Really.

I'm new to the hobby, and was just wondering what their full name is (I want to look them up in my fancy new fish book :)

They have the cutest faces- lol.

To be exact, the former Xenotilapia Ochrogenys has now been identified as it's own species, Xenotilpia Singularis. There are two variants (or collection points), Ochrogenys 'Ndole' (East) and Ochrogenys 'Mzuri' (West), both located at the southern part of the lake. The only physical difference that I've seen is the coloration of the spots on the dorsal fin. Both species have a primarily fluorescent blue dorsal, but the O. Mzuri has orange spots/accents while the O. Ndole has blue spots/accents. I'm hoping to get more of these guys soon!  8)
