    Looking for an interesting Tanganyika fish

    I am close the final stages of building my 110g Tanganyika tank.
    After a quick thought about it, I have decided that the African "Rift Lake" convict (known also as the Princess of Burundi) Neolamprologus brichardi has to go.  I am looking for some suggestions as a replacement.

    What is going into the tank is as follows.
    1.  Shell dwellers (L Ocellatus Gold)
    2.  Julidochromis Marlieri
    3.  N. Leleupi
    4.  Cyps (neon flash)

    I am looking for something to replace the Brichardi.  I have some thoughts of replacements myself, but I wanted to hear from what others where thinking.

    Rule #
    1.  I want a semi to more rare fish for the Houston area.
    2.  Cannot exceed 15/12cm m/f (6in/5in) when fully grown.
    3.  HAS TO BE A ROCK dwelling fish of some sort.   No shellies/sand dweller or open water.
    4.  Should not be a fish I can get Petco/Petsmart -- think of something I need to call Charles at Fish ranch or someone like him and beg him to bring in for me.  Dont go the other way and ask for something impossible to import into the tank.

    Right now I am thinking of the following fish.

    Neolampprologus nigriventris, Lamprologus Caudopunctatus, and a few others.. right now not sure what direction I am wanting to go in.

    What do you all think out there HFB people ?

      Drag these guys out of their shells 1.  Shell dwellers (L Ocellatus Gold)
      Put a beat down to these guys 2.  Julidochromis Marlieri
      Or murder these? 3.  N. Leleupi

        Yeah I am worried about the Leleupi doing that to the ocellatus gold, but right now they are living wonderfully and happily with Julie's who have done nothing more than evict one ocellatus from one set of shells next to the main rock structure that exists in the 20L

        I am going to litter the floor with shells so I am hoping the 5 Ocellatus I have will be able to co-exists with all of them in there.
        The fish who ever they might be will have to be added a little later.

        An eel could be interesting but I am thinking I am going to hold off on that one for right now.

        I will post pictures of the tank when its up and running and we might just see what I may want to add by then.  For now the Brichardi are NOT going into the 110 because I just dont want them anymore when I break down the 70 they are living in right now.

            get some N. savoryi. much more personality than any of the brichardi complex, and not exactly an easy to find fish!

            and they're more attractive than nigriventris, if you ask me... BUT, they are some mean little buggers!

              alexrex20 -- thank you for your input :)  I dont care how mean they are... you have not seen a fully grown Leleupi Dad giving chase...  they are not easily provoked, but if you mess with dad to long.....  he will jump at you hard core... some of the hardest and longest chases in my Tang tank comes from him putting in a chase...

              The Brichardi -- they are more of a nipper style chasers...  Hit / nip and then the run is over...  Leleupi is all about "I will hunt you down like the little sh*t you are and break you of that habit in a New York second there buddy"

              I love my Tanganyika fish :)

                Looking at options....  if I got compressiceps or calvus would I be making a mistake in this tank ? -- see the above tank mates ..

                  They seem to mind their own pretty well....I have both compressiceps and calvus at the shop....they're in with other stuff and no problems.

                    I've had trouble keeping shellies in with julies in the past. Just because I've had problems, doesn't mean that you will though. I think your suggestions are interesting, and was wondering about the following:

                    Neolamprologus furcifer
                    Neolamprologus buescheri
                    Chalinochromis brichardi

                    Why nt replace a brichardi with a brichardi?

                    I'm not saying that these WILL work, because I don't know. I agree with Quoc... that your choices are rather limited at this point.

                      savoryi are neat fish,if they pair up your other fish will be unhappy.i'd go with the buescheri.might be able to spare a couple of longicaudatus if you ask real nice.

                        Yeah I know about the limiting factor.  Im looking to not have excessive large fish in the tank, and I have been thinking about getting another Brichardi fish, but for me the more "common" Brichardi's dont give me the colors and "umph" I am looking for.
                        I am hoping with a 48x18 bottom which 1/2 of it will at least be open for the shellies -- is because I want to have the ground more littered with shells and I hope with the number of shelves that I am setting up (see my 70g setup I have right now in my pictures) that I am looking for a third fish to occupy the shelves/rocks than the bottom layer.   I am open for suggestions except that I dont want something else big that is going to compete for the shellies territory..  Maybe I should wait until I have the tank setup and pictures taken and see what happens then what fish I should put in.
                        I looked at yellow compressiceps (the kind honkzz has as his avatar) and I am thinking maybe that is a route I can go.

                        For now give me suggestions and I will see what I end up with :)

                          Comps/Calvus are cool! I would source some smaller ones to give the others a fair chance.... I prefer Black Congo Calvus, Goldhead Comp or FireFin Comp.

                            He's in luck our Golds are about 1-1.25" and our calvus are about the same.
