My frontosas are now gasping for air and i think they have a bloat.
    How can i cure bloat?

Re: Help..Frontosa having bloat..1 die already

Gasping for air can be a number of things.

Usually this is a sign of Nitrite poisoning or low oxygen.

    Please check your water.

Did you just set the tank up, perform a large waterchange, or a filter not working right? It has happend to some that they even forget to add the waterconditioner.  IT happens sometimes.

If all of this is in good order, I would suggest to you these things..

Add a powerhead with a venturi.
Add Aquarium Salt as directed on the box.
Get medications to treat internal parasites, and or Dropsy.

My personal favorite is CLOUT, but I have not kept Fronts before, so there might be a better med for them.

Clout can be had at most Local Fish Stores, but with a 100 gallon tank, you would be better off with the pond version.

The pond version can be purchased online at Dr.Foster & Smith.

I am not sure, but I think Dan at Aquarium Warehouse had the 100 count bottles.  This would last you 10 days while you waited for the pond clout to have as a reserve.

At most Petsmarts/Petco's and like that CLOUT can be found in 10 packs.

but it is cheaper if you get teh 100 count bottle, or the pond version.

How about epsom salts. The geeks swear by this for bloat.

Re: Help..Frontosa having bloat..1 die already

If they are super bloated already, there is a chance that its made the kidneys fail, and unless you can get them back and running again the fish will die of sepsis..  This is why as soon as you see a fish does not eat over two day that you looking at internal problems and Epsom salt should be added to the water asap.
Clout will kill any bacteria in the tank including those attacking your fish right now.   Water change and medication and salt needs to be added asap so you will lower your loss.  I had 24 tropheus Juvi's and I lost 10 before I had remission.  Lets hope that you can get remission faster than I did.
Daily 50+%  water change is your best friend as it will remove many of the freefloating bacteria in the tank.

Re: Help..Frontosa having bloat..1 die already

I have learned with fronts ......you need to be pumping O2 into the tank(thanks geeks). I have air pumps and  airstones under a koralia and they come on a few times a day. They are on timers. Some are 2x and hour and some are 6x a day.    I wish I had a better answer for you for the bloat. Make sure its not dropsy or something else that looks like bloat.

Do a 50% water change and treat with epsom salt.  I only use clout as a last resort.  It's pretty powerful.  Make sure to follow the directions exactly.

Let us know how it goes for you.

How old and how big are these Fronts?

What is the aquarium size and how long has it been setup?

How long have you had these fish?

What kind of filtration and watermovement do you have in the tank?
