I just hooked a friend of mine up on a 125g tank with a mix of mbuna and peacocks with tons of color..
He absolutely loves them.

I am a fan of Tanganyika cichlids, and some of their colors are not as good, but personally I love their personality better, and tend to be smaller..

i dont have a problem with regular blood parrots, they are fine, i do have a problem with people tatting fish and cutting their tails for retail purposes.

truthfully, the only parrot cichlid i would keep is Hoplarchus Psittaccus AKA the true parrot cichlid. 8)

Only Tang fish I have like color wise is the featherfins. Especially the Tricoti

i would go with the demasoni, or peacocks.  i have fallen in love with the Frontosa and they come in several bright blues and purples...they are a very expensive fish, though

fronts wouldnt be good for a 55 gal either.
you could get rid of the parrot and get a small colony of tropheus.people say not to keep them in a 55 gal but i do with great breeding success.

a lot of tangs could be great, leulupi, an lots of the cyps, and the shelllies have some cool colors.
