  • what's next?

I already have a 135 Hap/Peacock tank up and running. Now my eyes have turned to the empty 75g tank across the room. It will be the last tank I'll be able to set up until we move to a bigger home (which is indefinate haha) I just can't decide if it will be a tang community or mbuna setup. So, I thought I'd poll the good folks of HFB!

    Mbuna

I voted for other, why not try something that will be a real treat to the eye, a planted tank with nice soft green grass and plants and some colorful little tetras or something similar to them.

A 75 gallon tank would give you plenty of room to be creative and it could be an ongoing project....

Good Luck with whatever you decide on.

BEdward... well here is the problem.. I liked Malawi fish, colorful, but after a while, I started liking the personality of Tangs more, which is why I voted Tang.
A 75 (I take its a 4ft tank ?) would be an awesome place for some shell dwellers (4-12), a small group of cyps (10-14) and find yourself two pairs of different Neolamprologus (splitting the pair at each end of the tank and keeping the middle open and allow for the shellies to have play room :)

      What fish do Jesper have
180 WC T. Moorii Chilambo +1 Petro trewavasae.
      110
Cyps, WC Xeno Spilopterus Kipili WC/F1/F2 T. sp red Kiku
      58 S. Decorus

Mixed tang or small troph colony. Either are a sure fire winner.

i voted other because i am partial to planted tanks, between mbuna and tangs, i would definitely go tangs

actually why not a semi-planted tangs setup, some nana's, maybe a val or two or maybe an amazon as an anchor?

Hmm... planted tang. Neat idea. That tank was originally going to be a SA planted tank and I have all the equip for it. Don't know why it didn't cross my mind!

i voted Tang community. I have a fairly large community of Frontosa, Brichardi, Calvus and a few plecos and i absolutely love them.

i think it would be very interesting to see a planted tang, in addition to nana's you can use java's and i am sure there are other plant options, here are a few websites to get ideas

so, now the next questions are:

                      (1) which tangs?
                      (2) which plants?

Well, I already have gold ocellatus - that's a start. Will definately need cyps. Would love to get a black calvus - don't know how that will go w/ the shellies. I guess after that, some sort of Julie as a cave dweller...

As far as plants go - looks like Vals for sure. I don't know what plants will be ok in such hard & alkaline water. Some research is in order I suppose..
