  • Clown loaches - feeding suggestions

I know these fish are carnivores. They seem to be doing a great job with the snails that I have. Fortunately, mine are too little to eat the larger snails so I have a steady supply of snail food it seems.

What other food would you recommend? I am trying to stay away from live food and frozen food if possible.

Mine don't seem interested in the shrimp pellets. Maybe they are getting filled up on the snails.

No, but they are pretty small (2-3") and extremely active.

Shrimp pellets, the veggie/meat wafers, and I have heard they're fond of shrimp as well (keep meaning to try). If you can occasionally stomach the frozen food aspect, mine go bananas for frozen blood worms.

Any kind of food should be accepted by healthy clown loaches.
They are not finicky in the slightest.

Like most fish, they need a varied diet. Live brine shrimp, chopped earthworms, flake, pellets color bits, beef heart mixes, nls are a few things I've fed successfully to clowns. I've found they'll eat almost anything. If yours don't try a new food right away, give it time, and usually they eventually will try it. My clowns also went nuts for frozen krill, frozen mysis, frozen bloodworms and live blackworms. Try cichlid pellets and cichlid sticks too. Eventually they'll eat a varied diet for you.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Mine used to LOVE this brand only of shrimp pellets.

it was the only kind they liked.

They also LOVE frozen bloodworms!! ( i know you are trying to stay away from frozen food, but they do love it so!!) They will swim up and eat from my hand doing the little loach dance! They are WONDERFUL fish!!

                  I also feed them these

+1 on frozen blood worms and bribe shrimp, when I kept them they would also always eat any flake or pellets that I would offer. maybe they are full from all the snails. not to mention they probably scavange the bottom for whatever food your other fish leave behind
