    Panda Loach ('Protomyzon' pachychilus) Log

So I got lucky and found some of these rare loaches for sale. I bought six of them after researching what little information that is out there about them. They are a type of hill stream loach and eat algae from rocks.

Tank set up is pretty simple they don’t require plants or fancy substrates. Just a lot of smooth rocks to graze algae from also some nooks and crannies to hide in at night. They are a Hill Stream loach and like lots of flow in the tank. Lots of oxygen and clean water is a much so over filter your tank. I think they are small enough for a Nano tank so a simple rock scape in a Nano would be perfect for a species only tank. Just make sure your rock scape is stable and will not collapse on them. You can add plants if you want to I have seen mine grazing on the leaves.

Feeding them is very simple they will graze on rocks and substrate all day long till the lights go out. They will eat algae wafers so I put one in the tank once a week.

Behavior is peaceful I haven’t seen them bother any other fish or one another. Every now and again they will all be on the same rock munching away on algae. So they are good tank mates for Dwarf shrimp.
Breeding them Is a mystery I haven’t found any information about how to tell male from female or that they have been bred in an aquarium. So I have spent many hours watching them to see if I can see any difference between them.

I am very happy with these little loaches if you ever see them for sale they are worth the money.

Alright finished treating the tank for parasites. So I was putting the Purigen back into my filter. Hook it back up and open the valves and what do I see two pandas swimming down the tubing. So now I gotta take the filter completely apart SOB...

Yes...they are on my list of fish to buy when I hit the lotto...! Great find, though. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who is jelly.

I'd buy some if the price was right.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
