  • Pleco suggestions

Since I switched to LEDs I have had a major algae explosion in my tank. I keep it off the viewing glass by scrubbing but would like to get a pleco to handle it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a pleco for a 29 gallon SA tank?

O cat? Flash pleco? Rubber/bulldog pleco? Zebra pleco? Bristlenose pleco? Clown pleco? There's a lot of them to choose from.

I would go otocinulus. Get about 10+ for a small school, they do better in groups. They're lil algae eating machines.

Not sure tank could take 10. Already have 3 angels, 5 columbian blue tetras, and 7 corys.

Otocinulus would be good. They stay small and tear the algae up.Id probable put in about 6-8.

The first two would be okay to keep in the 29, but the royal... they get way too big for your tank.

O-cats are really small and for the most part stay really small. I think with your current stock, 6-10 O-cats wouldn't be much of a problem. What's your filtration like?

No clue on how fast they grow, but keeping in mind of the end result, it'll be way too big. I saw one at Xtreme that was about 13-14" a while back. They also have a bunch of little ones about 2-4".

According to planetcatfish, they get to about 13.4".

From what I've read, they are supposed to grow over a foot, but I've never seen one in person that was more than a few inches. I have one of the standard Royals, and he's grown about a half inch in the 10 months I've had him. He doesn't seem to be growing that fast at all, but I just moved him to a tank where he doesn't have to compete for algae/wafers. Not sure if the slow growth is specific to my lil' guy or not.
