I was wondering if anyone knows of any type of fish, other that dwarf giraffe cats, that are good at cleaning. Doesnt even have to be a fish but must be able to hold their own in a semi aggressive tank. Any and all opinions are welcomed!

There are quite a few different species of catfish found throughout Africa, though Synodontis come to mind off the bat. The others are not seen as much in the hobby, but can be acquired. What exactly are you looking for it to accomplish as 'cleaning' is a relative term. I assume this is for the African biotope themed tank and you have 3 synodontis listed already. Are they not doing the job completely or are you looking for some sort of algae eater?In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Really looking for something that will move the sand. Just toss in a bunch of assassin snails, they'll be burrowed in the sand most of the time, sifting it around.Comment

Any type of snail will. That is why you usually see planted tanks with snails because they are small but they can sift around the sand. Your bichir or ropefish might try to eat them though. I had a few nerites in my 100g and some of them were eaten by my bichirs. Maybe get some more synos?Originally posted by brandon_rss18 View PostComment

Well my list is not exactly up to date. Lol My bichir was found dead with a calvus sticking half way out of its mouth so no more bichir. Also I now have 4 synos so I am good on those (although I could never have enough). I am really thinking about the assassin snails. Are they pretty easy to find?
