I seem to have great success raising happy healthy Sailfin Mollies, but I have these meltdowns every so often...
A month and a half ago I got 2 small cats from Mike, I can't remember their name, "Ster'' or "Sar" something; they're grey with black spots, lean with a high dorsal fin.
They were about 2" or so long, and one died a few days later. I never saw the other one again, so I assumed he passed as well.
Tonight I saw a dark spotted fin sticking out from some rocks, and after counting my large Plecos realized I didn't know what it was. I moved the big rock, and discovered this large catfish living in the corner rocks of the tank.
He had been living in the rocks , and eating the small fry I left in the tank who liked to stay in that corner among the bigger rocks. He got too big to stay hidden, and he got BIG! At least twice as thick and almost an inch longer.
And I looked carefully, sure enough I am missing a lot of smaller fry, Roatan Islands and Sailfins.
Sheesh! I never thought a fish could stay hidden for a month and a half, even my extremely shy Rubberlip Pleco comes out once in a while... :bsoop:
I put him in my other 55, the male tank without any fry. He is really big...
I'm tempted to make finger food outa him, but I probably will forgive him and let him stick around a while, just to see how he does without fry to eat.
No more omnivores in my tanks...
