  • Energy Saving Light bulbs

Do energy lighting bulb has the same effect with regular bulb when it comes to lighting plants or for algea growth ?

so for example, a 19W=75W energy saving bulbs has a same lighting effects with a 75W PC light ?

NO thry are comparing the Lumens the bulbs put out. The 19w bulbs puts out the same amount of lumens as the 75W blub while only drawing 19w instead of 75w. The compact floursent tubes that are normally used for plants draw the power of the bulb rating ie 55w for a 2ft blub. you would need ~ 4 of the 19w bulbs for the same light.

It depends on the color (wave lengths) and amount of light (lumens) put out by the bulbs.
Martin Moe's book "Marine Aquarium Reference" has a good section on light. Also , years ago , GE had a good internet site.
