  • Floating crap in tank....

I am wondering what is the best way to get stuff from top of tank... The stuff i am having trouble with floats so no matter with all the flow i have it just skirts along the top of water... What can i do to get rid of it? Some type of skimmer?want to try to keep it clean looking and look ok on tank....

Surface skimmer attachment which hooks up to a powerhead.
There's a HOB filter on DrsF&S that has the same attachment on the intake.
Wet/Dry, seeing as all of them are surface skimming design.
Increase circulation with majority of the current pointed up to break water surface.

It sounds like a protein build up and if you increase it high enough you can limit the amount it builds up but not completely. Other options are to lay paper towels on the surface to remove it but you will be doing this every other day or you can just cut back on the feeding.

The stuff floating on top of water almost lookes like brine shrimp... However the only thing i have in tank is some new rock that i cleaned and pfs....55gallon tank with eheim 2028 and rena xp2.. I am using spray bars at top of tank so flow is ok....i just cant get the stuff that is floating at top of tank to get to suction of filters...really what i think i need is something that will skim clean the water line at top of tank... What do you suggest that would work best since the stuff is floating....

get a bucket and just barely submerge it so it will suck water from the surface.

I honestly would just put a small wet/dry on there and it would solve that problem.

There is the cheapie brand surface skimmer attachment you can get from ebay which mounts to a powerhead or HOB or you can fork out the money for the Eheim sludge extractor attachment.

I would see if anyone has one used first... it's a bit costly for what it is.
