anyone have anything to say about rio pumps? my husband and I are considering the Rio3100 series pumps for our sump tanks. he needs one, for his salt water, and i'm going to need one in addition to the one off his for my 140gallon tank. getting the sump this weekend for mine on the way home from visiting family. these were really reasonably priced, so i was thinking someone else might have had them.

also, we found them for 54.25 online. is that a good price?

Rio is ok but I prefer mag drives. for your 140 I would get a 9.5 or even a mag12. Are you getting a wet/dry?

yep! found one on craigslist that i'm getting for 60 bucks, and i'ts rated up to 150gallons. we are going to do 2 returns on it, because the tank is so dang long (7ft). so i was going to put the rio 3100 (900gph) and a quietone 2000 (580gph) on the tank. so i'ts a little more than 10x filtration, but once you factor in the distance the plumbing has to go, etc...will be about right.

I've never used a Rio so I have no opinion.

I did buy a Pentair Aquatics Quiet One Pumps 4000 which came recommended by a couple of members on hfb. I decided it was not strong enough for my setup so am about to return it - haven't made my way to the store. I never took it out of the box, so if you are interested, PM me. It's a little stronger then the rio and a little cheaper.
