I am building a Carbon filter and want to test the water to make sure its coming out clean but I will have to do that everytime just to make sure that the carbon is still good.

You need to test it about once a year. If you have a good size bottle, it might be a couple of years before it filled up. A large 10gallon carbon bottle will last you about 5-8 years. Testing each time you use it will be just a "waste" of your time.

I am making a carbon filter for the use during water changes it will only hold about a gallon of pellatized carbon. I figure this should last about a year but for the first few water changes I would like the ability to test to verify and then after about a year test again to find out if it needs changing.

im wondering how you plan on keeping the carbon in place (midstream of the Flow)

I went to the site and when I went to order it they require you to provide your company name.

This is a DIY filter. I will have filter floss on either end of the tube to make sure the carbon doesnt come out and on one end there will be an opening that I will screw a top to that I can dump the old carbon out and refill with new carbon. I will start a thread about it as I am working on it.

In both ends of mine I used the plastic canvas and cut 4 little round disks for each end. wedged them in the coupling before i glued it. I felt that the floss would clog after so many gallons. The carbon is pelletized so it is a large size. Not like the black diamond granulated.

I actually wrapped the filter floss on the outlet with the carbon bag that you can get a Petsmart for a dollar because I worried about the same thing.

I dont know why they would want a company name.
I would just put a - in the company name if need to be or just double up your name.
