the light on my tank makes that humming noise. i was wondering if replacing the starter should make it quiet. it doesnt make noise at first but then makes a pretty noticable humming noise that can annoy you when you are trying to look at your fish lol.

potentially your starter.. if you have an old fixture that still has a starter that would be the first thing I would look at.

Humming is usually a ballast as it gets older. Electronic ballasts make very little noise compared to magnetic ballasts.

Cheap ballasts (Home Depot $8 shop lights,etc) start humming the day you turn them on . Starters never hummmmmm.Comment
