  • How do you get silicone off?

My friend setup his tank to do a diy background and found out he used GE II instead of GE I. he was wondering how to take off the silicone that is already on the tank itself. is there a certain chemical or do you just razor blade it off or something?

take a 2" razor and scrape it out (lowes has them for like 3 bucks) then, if you are resealing or re-adding silicone, get an old sock and some acetone (also at lowes) and that will remove the last of the silicone residue on there. :) yea GE2 is toxic.... friend of mine found out the hard way.

Razor BLADES, and Acetone to clean/prep for the new seal.

Be careful with both. Wear some gloves and no smoking while using the acetone.

Denatured alcohol would be better, less residue. I believe acetone is toxic to everything(look at my hands, Iam a mechanic), denatured alcohol dries quickly and doesnt leave any residue.

I used plain rubbing alcohols with a scrubby sponge pad. Worked fine for me
