I like the little pillow version.....it's "rechargeable" and seems to aid in maintaining clean/clear water....

I put my pillow's in my sumps....

Until the pillow rips and all the particles ruin the impeller of your HOB filter. :icon_hang:

It does (did). You can bleach it to recharge it (until the pillow falls apart).

You would need a really fine mesh bag and tie it together or use a cable tie to close the bag rather than the drawstring that's on the bag to prevent particles from leaking out. Even better, put the pillow in a media bag for safety.

Rico, Make sure that you use a VERY fine bag... but YES it works WONDERS.. It will take a lot of junk out of the water, and you will see a difference.
Yes I have used it before.

$24 for a 500ml bag seem like alot. it also says not to use with anything containing slime coat

If you use stress coat, you will need to discontinue it because it will clog it up quick.
You will need to change to Prime or Amquel for your water purification needs.
Or better yet.. go get a carbon filter. I want to say this more than anything else.. with a carbon filter, your water looks cleaner and clearer than tap water and adding prime/amquel to it. I dont ever want to go back.
Again purigen does an awesome job cleaning out many of the things that a carbon filter already takes out before it hits the water.

i've been thinking about a carbon filter but i dont have the time to make it. my co-worker suggested i get the big container looking one. two sediments and one carbon. hesaid that would work for a while and i could also drink it. is this true?

Yes... I could contact John Fshfrk and see about going out there and help him build one for you. They are simple and awesome and I love the water flow.
Using the tap from outside the house, I am able to fill a 135 with 50-60% water change in 25 minutes (this was timed to show the difference) Was able to do a complete water change on a 135 in 35 minutes (using a 1" hose to drain out the window) and refill.

A carbon filter does not seem practical in my small apartment setting. I use a python hooked up to the kitchen faucet to do water changes. I've used Prime and Chloram X and have had no issues. As for the Purigen, sure, just make sure to double bag it. I stopped using it when it leaked and ruined a filter. Also, when I used to use it, I had only 4 aquariums at the time. I kinda liked Chemi-Pure better. Not rechargable, but it make the water look REALLY clean.
