Salvage fans from junked computers, refridgerators, etc; and use them to circulate air in hoods ;I use one in my small (8 X 12) greenhouse and it does very well.
For large , old (wrought iron frame- before SS and RTV) aquariums ,make center brace by welding a large washer to one piece of angle iron and threaded rod on a matching angle iron; one angle on each side of the tank top, with rod through washer. Then thread a nut on the rod , tighten slowly (against the washer) with feeling, until the sides of the tank are closer to straight/parallel. I would leave a little bow in the tank.
"Find" motar sand at construction sites; although it is too fine for some plant roots. "Find" short lenths of steel rebar at construction sites; used for sinking drift wood.
