I just recently got a canopy for my 55gal and I was wondering if I can take apart my t-5 fixture and mount it to the underside of my canopy? Anyone know any ideas?

Is it that Coralife 36" fixture? It's light enough that you should be able to mount it to the canopy. If you can find some 90 degree metal brackets from a hardware store that you can screw in you should be able just slip it in.
Bent wire hangers and fasten to the underside with some wood screws too.

yes you can mount it. The ballast will have screw holes to mount it. The wiring will run basically the same, the bulb end caps will have mounting plates. etc.. I have done the same thing about 10 times. I build a wood canopy and then dismantle my light fixture to mount inside my hood. I even just posted a full set-up in the Buy/sell/trade forum. Just needs to be mounted inside a canopy.Life's to short to worry and too long to wait

I just took apart my whole fixture. Only part I dont get is the part where the on/off switch is and the power cable. Do I just splice those? I wish a had a better background in electricals. Also I see a green wire connected to the fixture's housing, I believe that is the ground. Also its a oddysea either there are no ballasts or those mini things they have in there are them?

Probably the mini things. As far as wiring goes, green is ground, black is power and if ther is a white , it is a constant for dimming, and things like that.Life's to short to worry and too long to wait
