do it in the shower or tub when you open it up other than that just look for the sludge

just finished...it wasnt that bad at all. It will be ALOT more easy if I invest in another bag for the ceramic rings to go into. I will be doing that shortly and just keep it on hand until I clean this filter again. I discovered baby MTS in the filter...oh well...I guess we all get them eventually.

Yeah MTS love to live in the filter eating up all the crap. Its really easy to clean that thing if you have the media in the bag because you can pull it out and hose it down a little and rinse the canister out real quick and throw it all back together.

My Eheim cannisters make great red shrimp hatcheries. Always have a dozen or so every other month that I clean them.

When I clean my filter, I always use aquarium water to clean. just pull the bag out with media and dip in a bucket to loosen the crap out and throw them back in the eheim with new filter floss. never use untreated tap water as it kill your bio load.

I know that...but I always use tap water when cleaning the filters...I just use multiple filters on each tank so that the bio-cycle doesnt start over.

I use Bio Bale, so its really easy to clean those things.

You keep em full of Eheim media, you better have media bags, or its a long night...
