If I did this, I could pull my nerite snails and put them in my 20gallon fry tank for the time being...how many water changes until I could add them back in?

I am the new owner of an Eheim 2217 and I am a bit intimidated by the cleaning process.

How often is this necessary? I have been told not to mess with it if the flow remains good.
Where can I get media bags? I am pretty sure that I don't have those.

                Thanks.

You can go to a place like Xtreme on bellaire and get media bags if you want. Most people just go with the factor recommended packing of ceramic rings, porous balls, and then filter floss.

I clean mine once I start seeing eject a good amount of debris when I turn it back on after a water change. In a 90 gallon tank with 9 full grown discus, thats about once every two months.

depends on the service it is in. Some people use them as biofilters others as polishers.

It all depends on you and how nasty your fishes are...

Somewhere on here I read about pillow foam as filter media. What brand do I need and where do I buy it?
