I think I'll be at a point where I can finally add water to my 180g this weekend. If all goes right (i.e. no leaks), I'll be able to start my 2260 and my wet/dry on that tank. I plan to put about 6-8 Petro's (4-6inches) in this tank and keep it only stocked with them for atleast 6months.
The question I have is around cycling my tank. I've had a bad experience in the past with this so I want to get it right this time, especially since I'm putting my petros in there. Everything I put in this tank will be new (i.e. filter media, sand, water, etc) so there will be no bio-load with the equipment planned for the tank.
I do have an established Eheim 2080 that's been running on my other tank for a long time as well as sponge filters I've stuck in my tank to build BB. Is it sufficient enough to move the 2080 to the new tank and squeeze the sponge filters to add BB to the tank? Will this add sufficient bacteria to the tank or should I just cycle it another method?
Thanks in advance for everyone's input.
