  • ac110 sponges?

the instructions say the sponges need to be replaced every two months but they seem to be very rinsable, can i just keep rinsing them forever or do they need to be replaced? i already bought a bunch of ac sponges of different sizes for use in my marineland filters because its a cheap alternative for me and i dont use carbon in my tanks

same question with the bio max media it comes with

what i usually do is clean them REALLY good in tap water and then rinse them even more in tank water to make sure there isnt any chlorine in it....

I have re-used AC110 sponges for almost 5 years now.

I just rinse and re-use as needed.

the reason i suggest not using tap water is because the sponges are course and lots of beneficial bacteria colonize it.... if you rinse them with tap water then you might send the tank into a mini cycle...of course that's will just depend on if you have other items well colonized with bacteria

IF you also keep the bio-media then I have not had a problem using tap water or using a second filter.

If your not, then use clean dechlorinated or discarded aquarium water to clean your sponges.

If it's not the only filter that you have in your filter, rinse very well with tap water.

yea, i have multiple filters that dont get cleaned at the same time along with lots of media so i always use tap because i can get alot more pressure outta tap than i can with tank water in a bucket
