  • 7 footer material and filtration

so guys, im getting closer and closer to my troph project. the guy buying my sup[ercharger is finding a day he can take off work and come get it. So Im considering a 7ft tank and i plan on getting the stand for it built by jzaid. but i wanted some input from yall

    Filtration:
the filters that i will have available already are
    2 - rena xp3s
    2 - ac110s

i plan on selling my proclear 150 W/D with my 90g tank and getting a new one, should i get a proclear 300 or should i make my own? money is no issue

then once i get my wet dry, what combination of my filters should i use, or should i use them ALL?

As far as my tank is concerned, im still torn between glass and acrylic, whats the benefits and cons of each and which do you prefer?
    I make people happy

glass is heavy as s*** when your talking a 7x2x2 tank.
acrylic will be less then 1/2 the weight.

i would say get a proclear 300 or make an equivelent wetdry yourself.
and run the 2x xp3's with the ac110's.
this is what i would do.

i would use the wetdry for biological, the ac110's for chemical, and the xp3's for polishing.

        "money is no issue"

WOW! Then I would get ADG to do it for you.

        If it were me,

ADA 300G tank, AGA wetdry all the way. No need for AC filters or canisters.

I have 600 G of water being filter by a single wetdry.

Fishfrk has a 200 G filtered by DIY wetdry.

Do it big or go home right!!

Glass- Heavy but less scratches , cheaper
Acrylic- Lighter, way more expensive , lots of scratches.

If it were me, I would go with glass so save some coin. Once it is in place, it won't need to be moved, so weight shouldn't be an issue

        Just my .02 cents

you dont run carbon or anything?
i dont either, but it does help with clarity.

in that case, i would say rock an adg 36x18x18 wetdry delock may be able to hook it up.

and run a mag 18 pump and run the xp3's straight mechanical.

oh, and use a big cpr continuos syphon overflow for the overflow if the tank isnt going to be drilled.

i have seen this setup at jim's aka ssrprelude on his 4x2x2.5 150g tank, and it kicks a**!

I run a ADG wet/dry... either that or a Pro/Clear 300.. either one will do you fine.
MAG 18 as the pump (if single pump) or two MAG 9.5
Make sure that the tank is reef ready or else you are going to need at least 4 pipes going over the side of the tank (one pipe I am talking about is each U-tube in your skimmer).
Add 2 Koralia 4 for additional water movement. The AC110's albeit nice will simply not do your system any justice by adding them to the system.
Making your own wet/dry is far cheaper, and can really do some polishing in your system if you use the same style socks that John uses.
His tanks that uses the socks are CLEAN !!

                      7ft ? New ? Custom only.
Most tank manufactures today only make up to 6ft tanks.
You can order tanks at most LFS's and they might here in Houston get someone to make you a custom tank.
Look at www.glasscages.com and setup a tank there.
Peter I believe got a tank from them, he can prolly tell you what it takes to get them to make a tank.
I would get it RR tank no question. Simply better and easier to deal with it.
Only go with a show tank if you have a problem with jumpers.. Because they will invade your overflow and you have constantly pick them out from there which is a pain in the behind at times.
Get RR in the corners so you can check from each side of the tank if you have fish in there.

For new glass tanks I would check with Ultimate Fish in Spring. They bought out most of Oceanic's existing Dallas made stock before Oceanic moved to Wisconson as well as two other warehouses full of the Oceanics at the same time. The old Oceanic Dallas made tanks are highly regarded. So while these tanks weren't made yesteday they are still new and in great shape

my filtration on my 210 is 4x Aquaclear 110's, and one Eheim 2262. My water is perfectly clear. You know...you have seen it.

If you looking for someone to custom build you a 7ft tank the other option is to talk to Delock and have ADG get the tank built by DeepSea.. they simply make the best tanks. Hands down (they are the old Oceanic people who didnt want to move to Wisconsin when Central bought out Oceanic a few years ago.)
I would rather have a DeepSea tank than any other tank maker out there. Its going to not be cheap but they are the best.
