As you have seen I just finished setting up my 7ft tank...and I have learned a lot. Ultimately it is up to you...

    What I would do...and did.

Call Dustin at HAW and get a price on a 7ft Ocean Aquatic custom tank. They are a local company and you can pick it up yourself. I have a 5ft starphire glasscages.com tank too, and I much prefer the Ocean Aquatic tank.

Go rimless and ask for black silicone. Use the silver plastic egg crate material for a top. It looks great, its cheap, light, and doesnt collect scum and algae like glass tops do. It also doesnt take away from the look of a rimless tank. Your tank will stand out and look very nice.

Get a price from Dustin on a stand from them as well. You can order it unfinished and stain it yourself to match your decor. I love their stand...very roomy inside and 30" tall to fit most any filter or sump.

Look into the Eheim 2180 or 2080 and a CPR CR3000 wetdry with CS202 over flow box. Marinedepot.com sells it as a combo. You will also need some powerheads and put an Eheim 1262 pump in the included sump. You will not need a RR tank if you get this box. IMO its better than RR because it is VERY quiet, and it has a screen that slips into it that prevents small fish from falling into the overflow. It can also be placed hanging on the side of the tank as in my setup so you can put the tank almost right up against the wall. In addition, RR tank is going to have these two big boxes in your tank, taking up swimming space and taking away from a more natural look. The overflow box wont do that.

You will not need to do any PVC plumbing with this setup. Just use the hoses the filters come with, VERY SIMPLE and trouble free system. Even the filter (Eheim 2180) has a built in 500w heater if you need it and its got a digital display.

Here is a pic of the 7ft tank, as you can see, no overflow boxes to see, no heaters to see....just a more natural look. And still the stand is big enough to keep 2 ten gallon tanks under the left side as see in the pic. One is a QT tank and the other is holding my carbon bottle and hose.

Hope this is helpful in some way Mark....either way, make it your own. Lots of good suggestions from a lot of good people here.

    Good Luck!

The old Oceanic Dallas made tanks are highly regarded. So while these tanks weren't made yesteday they are still new and in great shape

Great information Gene D. I started running my Oceanic 75 in 93 and it's still going strong. I have planned on upgrading it next spring but I might have to look into this.

            I might sell my 210g setup that I have not got setup yet. It's a 7ft 210g Oceanic tank, I have a 2260 with some media and a 15-16g wet/dry with bio balls with a mag 18.

Yeah, I jumped the gun on this one...

But I'm going to stick with it if I don't get at least 90% of my money back that I spent on the setup. MURAGOS!
