Using a Canister filter when not placed under the tank - will it work?
Using a Canister filter when not placed under the tank - will it work?
I'm looking into geting a canister filter at some point, but I have a question. If my tank isn't on a stand, can I use a canister filter as long as it is shorter than the tank's height?
Thanks! :)

ive actually used a rena xp3 on a 40g tank on the ground and really didnt have much issues except with priming....but yea, it should probably be shorter and make the hoses as short as possible too

Should be fine. I currently run a canister that sits on the same level as the tank with no issue.
But due note that the canister is still shorter than the tank.
I have 2 HOT maginums that I use on tanks that are sitting on the floor.
Work great, low maintaince, only problem I have is the java moss keeps plugging up the intake.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
