  • Whisper 60 Impeller - Help which one photo included!

    Hi,
I got a hold of a pretty clean Whisper 60 for the right price (free). It came with the impeller removed, and two impellers in the box. If I try impeller A, it will run great, but have maybe 50% of the proper flow. If I run impeller B, it starts the siphon great, then immediately after the filter starts flowing water (it flows at the proper rate), the impeller starts rattling and the flow just stops. When I lift the tube, the impeller is turning very slowly if at all.
Does anyone remember which of these, A, B, or possibly none of the above looks proper for the filter? The replacement impeller that they show at various on-line sites looks like A. I'm afraid if I buy it, I'll spend money, shipping, and end up with reduced flow like the one I already have.

The photo lies. The shafts are the same length and fit the exciter and the tube properly.

I know this is an old filter, but I also got lots of media so I think it may be worth a shot.

    Mike

The one on the left "A" is for 30 series HOB
the one on the right "B" is the proper impeller for a 60.
if it stops spinning while in the pump well more than likely the impeller has separated from the magnet. You can glue it back with some superglue or buy a new one.

The new ones are shaped differently, they have more fins and are not as wide.

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

That's what is odd. The magnet wasn't loose. However, I messed with it enough that it finally gave up completely. So I'll just order a new impeller, I guess. I also picked up another big HOB at the HCCC auction. Works, but noisy as all get out. I think that although I love HOBs, cannisters may be better for inside the house. They just cost so darn much more.

Thanks! I was finally able to order the replacement impeller. The delay was due to the fact that I wanted a bunch of stuff, not just one measly impeller!

You were correct of course. The replacement looked totally inadequate and too small, but worked perfectly. The funny thing is that the rattling issue still occurs, but only if I have the water flow control in certain positions. Wierd.

But now I have another pretty decent HOB until I can get funding for an AC110. Life is good.
