  • Need Help Installing RO/DI

I'm afraid i'll mess up somewhere and water will be everwhere, lol. Says I need a drill in the instructions which I don't have. Somebody was suppose to help me, but they keep pushing the date and were suppose to come today, but didn't hear from them. I will have beer(or coke) and lunch if someone can help me. I can throw a little money but not much. Filling the 260g will kick my butt.

You can usually get either a hose bib to 1/4" tubing adapter or a sink faucet to 1/4" adapter at your local lowe's/homedepot. As long as you run the drain line in the sink, you can run the unit off of either the garden hose/faucet without making any permanent plumbing changes.

I have done it for years and it works great.

Thanks, I went ahead and bought a multi-turn valve to run to my faucet and hookup to my RO/DI unit. Also on a off note I read that most systems only recover 5-15% of pure water and the rest is wastewater. Is this true?

under the sink there is a valve to the cold water faucet, shut off you water suply where it comes into the house and take that valve off, add a 'tee and another valve for the R/O and put the old valve for the faucet back on ( I like to use an icemaker valve for the R/O because it fits 1/4" tubing.

the waste water from the R/O system can be dumped into the sink but for asthetics there is a kit that lets you add it to the drain pipe under the sink, and yes you need a drill to make a hole where you attach the saddle.

the way the R/O system works is that some of the pure (soft) water goes through the membrane to your storage unit while all the things you don't want (hardness) stays in the tap water that goes to the drain. You can use this (hard) drain water for other things (garden. toilet, African Chiclids) rather than running it to the drain. Most vendors claim a 50/50 split but it depends on the quality of your membrain and the water pressure. Expensive membrains can be back washed and reused, inexpensive membrains need to be replaced when they start to plug up.

Invalid attachment. Is it ok to drill a hole for the waste water later until I get a drill this weekend. For now I don't have a problem with running it out my cabinet and into the sink.I have to have some water in my tank by this weekend because i'm picking up live rock and sand from somebody.

Sorry for posting in wrong section.

ha. I just thought right now that I can probably run it to my washer drain permantly since its close by. I won't have to drill.
