  • Too cheap to buy new sand.

Just removed 2 bags of sand from the 150gal. It was infested with MTS. Got it boiling on the stove now.You should see them trying to crawl out. I muted the TV and I thought I could hear little screams. Should I feel sorry for them?

I've tried bleach and that does not work. I guess if you used 5 gals of bleach on a 80lb bag it might get them. But boiling yea these guy's are well done. Still have to do another bucket. After the sand cools I will put it in a bucket and let it age. Let there boiled corpses decompose for a month or so. Then put the sand in my sand washer on see if the shells are light enough to get pushed out over the top. I declare war on MTS!

Snail, sand and bacteria soup kinda stinks when you boil it in the house. 76 I pulled all the rocks out yesterday. Mother nature is bleaching them for me. I added holy rocks for the time being.

John, I boiled all my gravel from my 75 gallon that had some MTS. Boiled it outside for more than 10 minutes with a big pot that we use for crawfish, there is no way they could still be alive after that.

                        John,

I have microwaved them before. I have used had-a-snail, and coppersafe on tanks that started to get them, and worked fine.

If you get infestation that is out of control, microwave, and basically starting over is the best way.

buying plants, used gravel that is fresh, ornaments, rocks, used filters; just about anything that comes from the running tank that is not disinfected before introduction to the new tank.

+1 on the copper safe and you don't have to tear the tank apart.

It takes a little time but it works
