  • JEBO 838 filter - Should I buy it?

I found a deal on this filter and I don't know much about them. This is a limited time offer so I have to move quickly.

I have been thinking about buying a second filter for my 72 gallon tank for a while. I don't really need it, but I think my water would be cleaner with another filter. I currently have an eheim 2217.

Please rate this filter for me.

    Thanks.

The filter is basically an Eheim knock-off . I have read mixed reviews about them . Some good... some bad.... but mostly bad . i purchased one used about four years ago and I would have to give it a grade of a " C " . The one I had leaked at the "priming button" . This could have been there when I bought it from the Seller . My only other complaint was that the unit was cheaply made . It is made out of a very cheap grde of plastic which was very brittle . The slightest amount of pressure or the slightest twist of a part would crack the plastic . On top of that...this product is made in China and parts are almost impossible to find . Like I said earlier , I have read mixed reviews on these filters , but I personally would not purchase one . Especially since you already have a 2217 and when you compare the Jebo to the Eheim you are going to be disappointed . I know that the price you're getting for the Jebo is great...but keep in mind that "you get what you pay for" . I would go ahead and invest the money in either another 2217 or Rena XP3 . Right now , I think Dustin... over at HAW.. has the best price on Eheim 2217 in Houston . Or try Fish Ranch... because I think he had a thread stating that he was selling them for $125.00 each .

This is what I needed to hear.

To let the cat out of the bag, there are two new JEBO filters at Fish Paradise for $75.00 each (50% off). They were there when the store opened this morning, but who knows how long that deal will last. Even if it isn't a top notch filter, that is a pretty good deal. I think I am going to pass.

I have only heard bad things from the Jebo filters and in one of the cases the impeller locked up for some reason and the motor started over heating. I would save my money and get an Eheim which are much more reliable and parts are readily available.

I've been looking at filters again too and have to agree with the other folks. Stay away from Jebo (speaking from experience), however, I stumbled across one made by Sunsun. Their filters are much less then the leading brands and I read only great reviews. Here are a couple of websites http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/eq...filter-hw.html and http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?p=494803.

Problem is that you can't find them in local stores but I did find them on eBay however the sellers on eBay don't use the manufacture's name so they are really hard to find. If you are interested and need help finding them, let me know. I'll have time later tonight and can do a search.
