  • Wet / dry - Measured results for dissolved oxygen?

I understand the concept of the wet / dry and I agree that healthy bacteria will thrive in a wet / dry more so than other types of filters?

I have found some very loose mention of oxygenation of the water in a tank using a wet / dry. Here are my questions.

    1) Are there any measured or quantified findings showing if or how much the dissolved oxygen will increase by using a wet / dry unit?
    2) Are there any studies with supporting data showing that higher levels of dissolved oxygen will benefit fish in general? What specific benefits will result.

Based upon informal quizzing of relatively knowledgeable people and research on the internet, nobody seems to know the answer definitively.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me to good information on the web.

I read a long time ago that the average wet/dry vs Canister rated the same was about 66-75% additional additional oxygen in the water.
The test to show how much more Oxygen was in the tank was measured with a chemical breakdown process. I dont recall it exactly but basically the gist of the test was the same as a Chlorine breakdown in water.
The Chemical used, uses oxygen to break down. It was tested in like a 200g tank where the chemical was added to the tank, then a canister was used. Then the rest was repeated with a Wet/dry. The time it took for the chemical to be completely converted was measured. This gave an indication of how much Oxygen was being introduced into the tank. The test ended with the result that somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 more O2 was in the water when using a wet/dry over a canister. I have for sure more O2 in my tanks with a wet/dry than a canister.
