  • New to Wet/Dry

I recently bought a wet/dry filter for my project tank. I have all the components, but need to know about maintenance. It will fit under the tank, but to remove it would be very difficult. My question is: would I have to remove it from under the tank to clean, can I just take out a few bioballs wo clean when I need, or will I actually need to scrub the tank.

    Just clean the pre-filter.

Clean 1/2 the BB each few months.

Honestly....I've gone a while without clean my BBs.
I ate my fish that died.

If you are using some sort of pre filter material such as a prefilter sock are the filter floss...then you should't have to really clean the Wet / Dry . Plus , keep in mind that if your Wet / Dry uses an over flow then it won't be picking up much poop .

So it should be good in the cabnet without being able to remove it? I have several profilters in the overflow and trickle tray, and sponge before pump. Reaching the bioballs is ok.
One quick question. would it be benificial to add the biomass you use in a canister filter to the sump area to creat more benificial biofiltration. Like a Berlin for fresh water.

And the most important feature of a wet dry is the friendly bacteria that grows on your bio balls....with sufficient prefilters, you should not have to nor really is it recommended to clean the bio balls.....only clean them when you feel they have been contaminated by some outside source of waste.....Use a sponge in the overflow box and again in the intake chamber of the wet dry....you should be good to go...
