  • Eheim 62 gallon aquarium - cracked bottom plate

Picked up a rimless Eheim aquarium with a cracked bottom plate.

The glass cracked like a normal glass from edge to edge yet quite a few places on the internet said that the bottom glass is tempered.

I thought that tempered glass does not crack, it just shatters into a million tiny pieces. am I missing something?

Is it hard to replace the bottom glass on a rimless aquarium?

All the tanks that I have owned which had tempered glass had a big sticker on the outside / underside of the glass that you couldn't possibly miss. I says no to drill. Tempered glass in my experience will essentially explode into tiny pieces when broken. It does not sound like you have tempered glass.

No sticker on this bottom plate glass at all. The crack from edge to edge tells me that it should not be tempered...

Not looking to drill or anything in the future, just want to change the bottom glass so I can use this large aquarium upgrade from my 30 gallon...

I would think that it would be would have stronger glass (tempered) to make up for not having a brace on top.... Just a thought
