i fed my cichlid veggie and tropheus lovers flake food for over two years, but never had any problem with the food. i used to feed them 3 times a day with enough amount for them to consume all the flake in 5 minutes and do water change 50% every 4 days.
do your tanks have a lot of algea? do you have gravel in your tank-if yes, do you vacuum your gravel when you do water change? those are all the possibilities i can think of. good luck
When I used to fed Ken's flakes years ago, I never had a problem. I do not know about his quality recently.

The last few pounds I got had a lot of green colored flakes...and usually it's a reddish mixture. I have been using the same basic food for years...never had green water ever.
Since this batch I have had varying shades of green water color in all my tanks...I have 8, and do not exchange water, filters, or fish in general amongst them.
The color gets really green with time, and I sometimes have a 2 week span of time between some tanks' 70% water change.
Big tanks and a few small fish make that not too serious a crisis, but the water has been turning a darker green in the tanks with the oldest water...all have a green tint that I never had before.
I use the Super Special tropical flake, so I don't think it's a case of tank rot or whatever.
I never have algae, my plecos are numerous and I just never have algae.
I also overfilter my tanks, my 55 has a 30-60 and a large undetermined volume (at least 60-75 gallon tank) HOB on it; others have 65 gal canister and a large HOB filtering the water...so all I can see is the flake had some color added to it and I have green tanks.
I can't be the only one, though; so I'll wait and see if anyone else using the last batch of Super Tropical Flake had any green water issues.
Damnedest thing...
