i have had both in the past.....which do yall think would be best for total filtration...i dont want to under filter my tank...i was thinking about buying either 2 fx5s or maybe 2 2028.....i realize that either of these 2 filters are not enough filtertration alone....i am going to buy 2 pumps to help move water around in the tank.....which would you buy?

I have 7 - FX5's on various tanks around the house and love them. But I'm sure most would recommend you get the 2028's. I've just never been a big Eheim fan.Our Fishhouse

Both filters are great and will do the job . Just keep in mind that the FX5 is a "power hog" . The FX5's power consumption is approximately 50 watts as compared to the 20 watts of an Eheim 2028 . The FX5 has a higher flow rate ..but that won't be that big of a deal since you"ll be adding power heads to your tank . I personally prefer the FX5 to the 2028 . Nothing is wrong with either filter...I just think that in your setup.....two FX5 will out perform two 2028...easily . Again...either way ..you can't go wrong .

I love eheims. I don't like the pump being on the bottom. Heard to many problems of sand stopping the FX5. Never had a problem with my eheims.

why 2028??? These new Eheims are NOTHING compared to a classic 2260/2262. I would recommend 2x Eheim 2262 and you will be just fine. If cost is an issue...FX5 will work just fine. The 2262 with a Hydor inline heater is the perfect canister filter setup.250gallon-Wild Angels, community

I def love my 2260 than my fx5..2260 holds more media..pump on the top so no sand problem in the pump like the fx5..and more durible its ehiem..i ve got sand and micro bubble problem on the fx5 before..not a big fan of the green tubes of the ehiem tho...and the ehiem is not that much more expensive than the fx5 if buy used

Never had any problems with my FX5's.....change them every 4 months.....I got two fx5's on a 135.....and have over 100 fish in there, including over a dozen frontosa....not one sick or unhealthy fish since I put up the tank....
I will have to part with some of my fronts soon though..they are getting close to 5 inches now and I don't want to push the bio load any futher...

If it was 2028 vs fx5, then I would go fx5.
But really you should get the eheim 2260, 22062.
1) never breaks down.
2) Resale prices hold value.
You can fine a used "complete" ehiem 2260 for $250 and resale it for that exact same price 4 years later.I ate my fish that died.
