Maybe get a foam board cut it to fit and tape it on. Set the tank on the foam board will help too. Just getting it off the cold floor. Cover it with it too.

I kept calling my lovingly patient wife to get her to check the tank temp through the day. She put an extra 200W heater in the tank and covered it with our beach towels. It was a nice toasty 85 degrees when I got home. The temp was still at 85 this morning so I guess that little crisis is over. Thanks guys!

For what it's worth, I'm growing out 7 angels in a 37 tall, changing water 4-5 times per week, around 35 -40% each time. As mentioned above by others, I don't worry about ph, just try to make sure the temp is w/in range of what's in the tank (which is 80 - 82 degrees). I'm wondering if, because the tank is outside in the garage , if that is presenting issues that wouldn't be there in an indoor set up ??

Honestly, there are things that if they were done right, I wouldn't have as much of an issue. I'm pretty sure the ph swing has been killing fish because they stopped dying so much after I started aging water. My first attempt at discus was 7 2" cobalts in a 20H that I was changing about 75% on daily. My water changes from 7.6ph to 8.4ph overnight so they started dying off one by one. It didn't happen right away but after a couple months of that the smaller ones went first and eventually they all were gone. I didn't have a test kit at that time so I had no clue about my ph.

If I insulated my water aging tank I wouldn't be having much of an issue matching my water change temperature. If I had insulated my tank stand a little bit I think the temperature would be more stable. Basically, I got a great deal on these discus and jumped on it without making full preparation to keep them again. I can see outside through the top of the garage door, for example. Theres lots of room for improvement. Planning ahead makes all the difference.
