What will happen if you plumb a pump that uses 1" hosing into a 3/4" hosing? Will it cause the pump to break down?

2 things can happen, depending on flow rate it may restrict your pump slightly, but it shouldn't cause any damage, what will happen is it will cause a little stronger flow as the reduction will compress the flow, bit know you shouldnt hage any problems.FRENCH FRY!!!

It will not break down right away.
It will ware down over time faster.
It's like putting extra head pressure on the pump.
Either way, the ware is not that fast b/c you are using a magnet driven pump right?I ate my fish that died.

A 1" pipe is good for ~1000gph, 3/4" ~750gph so like I said depending on flow it could.case damage.
If.you have a mag 12 or larger then yeah you will see quicker wear, what flow rate on the return with head height are you using?FRENCH FRY!!!
