  • resealing tank

i would like to know if i can just run a bead of silicone along the entire bottom of the tank over the existing silicone, i have determined that the only leaking portion of silicone is a small portion on the bottom.

    someone please lmk.

Im my opinin, NO. It will create for lack of a better term a "cold joint". Wet silicone will no bond properly to older dry silicone. Again I/MO you will be much better of by removing all of the silicone and resealing the tank. The most inportant part is preparing the surface, "clean-clean-clean and dry before trying to resealing. Hope this helps. I am sure u will get other opinions.

Mike is right. The lest you could do is the one seam and you need to strip the old silicone out. It would be better to do all 4 sides of the bottom. But you could just do that one seam. I wonder if these bow fronts always leak in the same place, same seam?

New silicone will not adhere to old silicone very well . I personally would just go ahead and redo the entire tank . I have a 175 gallon Oceanic Bowfront that I had to reseal . I resealed where I thought it was leaking and it still leaked . I found out that just because you see water leaking from a particular spot...doesn't mean that spot is the point of leakage . My leak was at the bottom corner...so the water would fill up in the trim and actually spill overin the opposite back corner . Needless to say , after trying to do a partial fix twice...and doing a fill and empty twice......I decided to go ahead and reseal the entire tank . I ran an extra thick and wide bead . The tank has been running for over two years without a single issue .
