  • Wet/dry pump

Got my wet/dry up and running. Works like a charm. Problem is, the pump seems to echo when the tank is filled with water causing quite a racket coming from under the cabinet.
My question is, and this may just be the norm for wet/dry's, can I put foam or something around the pump to cut down on the noise. Would this help at all? I'm a Virgin to wet/dry filter's. So, like I said, this may be normal. I just don't like hearing the loud hummm.
    Thank's for your help.

Is it the pump that echoes or the return pipe? I put a piece of tubing around my return pipe where it makes contact with the aquarium stand to help reduce vibrations.

No air in the pump. No vibration from the return line. I think it's because the pump is sitting on the bottom of the wet/dry. Thus causing the vibration. I think a piece a blue foam would do the trick. If I lift up on the return line while it's running, you can hear different pitches to the noise. Maybe it's just me because it's new.

Im sure add a piece of foam or rubber would do the trick, if it is vibrations and not the pump itself being noisy...

If your coming by tonight, you'll see what I mean. It's totally vibration. I ran the pump in a five gallon bucket for several hours before I ever used it. It ran a hydroponic pot plant setup for awhile. Figured I better get the bad stuff out so i didn't have a bunch of Dopey fish. LOL

Try a mousepad underneath the pump. Also, some pumps are just louder than others. What brand are you using?

I can't remember the brand of pump. I had to google the model # to find out. It is pretty loud though. I put some padding under it but, it didn't help.

Have you checked the shaft and impeller? If it has a ceramic shaft it could be broken, or if it has a metal shaft it be worn, also check to see that the impeller opening where the shaft goes isn't out of round.

Thanks Al. I'll look into that. Maybe it's just dirty.
