You can switch to hydrogen peroxide for algae control. Much cheaper and no worries about what it's doing to the water.
When you do this do you use a syringe and inject it right on the algae?
Once my plants start to grow I wanted to take out the plastic plants but where they reach the top of the tank I have that ugly brown slimey hairy looking algae growing. I just notice a huge glob of it tonight on one of the plastic plants. I'm thinking about taking them out this weekend.
