  • Prime, Safe and water clarity

Do you guys think that Prime and Safe usage causes water clarity to deteriorate? I have an issue with water clarity in three of my tanks. One of them, the 230, already has1L of Purigen in for bags in the wet/dry and there was a big improvement but just not where I need it to be. Will a carbon bottle help?

A carbon bottle for water changes helps reduce chlorine but I would still use my amquel+plus

The carbon bottle does nothing for chloramines/ammonia if your water source has that

Also, how long have these tanks been up and running with their stock levels and what frequency/amount of water change do you do?

The 230 has been running for a while now. Stock is 29 Petro, 2 plecos and 8 loaches. Water changes are 80% every 7 - 10 days. Also have two Koralia 7s running so that detritus doesn't hang around too long.

I have the same issue... some tanks crystal clear, others cloudy. Regardless of what I do?!

With new tanks and constant introducing of new fish coupled with frequent large water changes you could be having mini bacteria blooms.

It takes a lot longer for the tank to fully settle down with this method especially if you've maintenanced your filtration since. It happens to all of my tanks for the first few months but I don't let it bother me since I'm constantly doing water changes. Also would depend on the water source too cause I've noticed at times its worse than others.

If you have canisters stuff them with floss and don't maintenance them untill you desperately have to.

You might be on to something there. This 2262 has maybe 2" of floss and the rest is bio bale. I was thinking of taking the bio bale out and putting about 5L of Substrat Pro and then full the rest with floss. Thoughts?

when I ran 2262s it was like so... coarse black sponge/ehfi subtrat pro/med course sponge on top

I was lazy and hated servicing them but woulde leave one where it could be used with filterfloss and usually a few layers of it to polish the water.

I'm actually switching out all the floss in my canisters.

I'm just run eheim media. I hate cleaning my canisters. Have really notice and change to water clarity.

I think that's the only way I would run a canister now when the ease of replacing the filter pad out of the wet/dry is less tedious!

I have floss on the drop tray in the wet/dry so maybe running all bio on the wet/dry lone Thai is what I need to do. I've been thinking that over the last couple of days.
