pH Pens?

I'm in my first year of college and recently during my field lab experiments, I learned that scientist tend to rely on the pH pen more than the chemical and the strip tests. What are y'alls thoughts on the pen? I've seen them go for 11 bucks on ebay and might be considering to get one.

I would get a quality one and have calibrating solution on hand.

Other than that it would a quick and easy solution but then again how often do most test this?
