  • Luft pumps

Question. I'm trying to get some gentle water movement and surface agitation in my 105 tall. I've got a Koralia 425 gph powerhead on there, pointed up toward the surface, but it only takes care of one side of the tank. If I add my second power head to the opposite side pointed up high, the flow becomes too crazy and even the rummies get all confused and blown all over the place.

So I was going to use an air stone to produce intermittent bubbles here and there to get some gentle surface agitation. I can't seem to find an air pump that'll overcome the resistance though. The tank itself is 30" tall and the stand is probably 38" or so. I looked into the Coralife luft pumps but have no experience with them or any idea of how to choose among the 7 psi or the SL 38 or SL 65.

Thoughts? Would appreciate the advice. :?

I don't have any experience with luft pumps either. Thanks for introducing me to these. I'd go with the biggest one possible, both financially and dimensionally. the SL models seem neat. looks perfect for a shrimp rack setup with sponge filters. Maybe the 7 psi would be good though. I'm sure that would move plenty of air for your application.

if youre just trying to stir the surface the stone doesnt have to go to the bottom.i'd get a cheap pump and a foot or so of tubing.hide the pump behind the light, run the tubing down the back side of one of those roots you have near- at the surface

Actually, today I tested everything and it seems like the weighted bubble rod is the actual problem. Don't need that much pressure after all! :) Oh well, at least I learned something new along the way.

I was really wondering why you needed a luft pump, thought maybe you had other future plans that would warrant the need or maybe with the new big tank you were getting all ballin on us.
